Book Review – Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

 Hey lovely readers!

Today’s post is a book review of Hush, Hush. This book was published in 2009 and so I am a bit late to the game when it comes to this book. But I hope that gives me a fresh perspective! I want to start by saying that I was so excited by this book, so perhaps I’ll be a little biased in my review! So lets get into it. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Hush HushThis book is YA, so I was expecting a certain type of character, plot line, the usual. But this book was like a breath of fresh air. From the very beginning there is a mystery to solve, but what I love about it is that it’s not a save the world mystery. It is personal. Patch is a fallen angel who wants to be human and Nora is just a normal girl (so she thinks) with an important bloodline. Nora is the key to Patch becoming human, though she doesn’t know it and I won’t say how she fits into things! But it isn’t good!

Nora is somewhat of a unique heroine. She doesn’t have anything that makes her inherently striking, but she has a quiet purpose that is very important. I like that this book isn’t about a girl trying to save the world, or a boy trying to win a girls heart. It really is a selfish kind of story, which makes for a fascinating read. Patch is only looking to gain humanity and Nora is being used, but in the end they both commit the most selfless acts possible. Saving each others lives in a surprising way.

And then of course there are the boys: Patch, Elliot, and Jules. I love a good bad boy and Patch is no exception! Elliot and Jules gave me the creeps right away, though Jules was so hard to get a read on. Patch is so harsh, but I really loved his character. I thought it was really brilliant writing in the way that Patch’s true feelings are never obvious. So you never really know how you’re supposed to feel about him or how he really feels about Nora. I think that’s what makes this book so amazing. All of the underlying and simmering thoughts and feelings.

I think that’s what makes the twists and revelations all the more impact-full. Plus the element of mind manipulation makes you wonder if what is happening is always real. The ending shocked me and I loved it so much! I am in love with Patch and by the end I was totally rooting for me. Even when I maybe shouldn’t have been! So if you like slow burn romance and a little mystery in your YA novels this one is for you! I can’t wait to read the sequels!

Well that’s it for now! Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
