Book Review – King and Tyrant: King Series by T.M. Frazier

Hey lovely readers!

Today’s post is a book review of King and Tyrant, books 1&2 in the King Series by T.M. Frazier.

I actually finished both of these books last week, but I just couldn’t bring myself to write up the review. Why? Because I couldn’t figure out how to do it without spoilers. But I think I’ve got it now, so let’s get started!

Homeless. Hungry. Desperate. Doe has no memories of who she is or where she comes from. A notorious career criminal just released from prison, King is someone you don’t want to cross unless you’re prepared to pay him back in blood, sweat, sex or a combination of all three. King’s future hangs in the balance. Doe’s is written in her past. When they come crashing together, they will have to learn that sometimes in order to hold on, you have to first let go.
I. Remember. Everything. But the relief I thought I would feel never comes, and I’m more afraid now than I was the morning I woke up handcuffed in King’s bed. Because with the truth comes dark secrets I was never meant to know. I will put the lives of those I love most at risk if I let on that my memory has returned, or if I seek help from the heavily tattooed felon who owns me body and soul. I don’t know if I’m strong enough to resist the magnetic pull toward King that grows stronger every day. He’s already saved me in more ways than one. Now it’s my turn to do whatever it takes to save him. Even if that means marrying someone else…”

I have to be honest. I was SO skeptical of this series when I picked it up. I kept hearing about it from Jess at PeaceLoveBooksxo, but I was kind of afraid to read it. I had heard King was a very violent character and that his treatment of Doe wasn’t the best. But I gave it a shot and OMG I’m sorry that it took me so long! This book is truly unique and it offers a different kind of love story. One that I think needs to be told more, the one in which everyone saves themselves. Doe and King don’t necessarily need each other, but they do want each other. And that in itself is amazing. Considering how they meet it’s a miracle they can even stand each other. Okay let’s talk about the characters!

King is not your typical book boy. He is like a book bad boy to the extreme. He actually scared me a bit at first. But learning about him and his shitty past definitely opened my eyes. I really loved his bluntness, how open he was about who he is. He made absolutely no apologies for his initial treatment of Doe. But when it really counted he was there for her in a way no one else really was. Learning the reasons behind King’s path in life was truly heartbreaking. But I think the story was handled really well. I think it takes guts to write a character like him, especially considering some of the things he’s done or does do as the story progresses. King is dangerous sure, but he’s also kind, loyal, and brutally honest. Honestly from the first book to the second I was hooked.

When Doe meets King she’s at a pretty low point. She has no memory of who she is, her slate is wiped clean. So remember how I said I was afraid to read this book at first? That’s because King pretty much forces Doe to stay with him. And I wasn’t sure how to feel about that, but once I understood the reasons I felt better about it. And honestly when it really mattered Doe was free to go her own way. King always gave her a choice in one way or another. I really liked Doe in general. She’s fiery and sarcastic and she tries her best to give as good as she gets from King. I found her character to be refreshing. I’ve never read a story where memory loss plays such a huge part. And the thing that was so amazing about Doe was that she didn’t need King to figure out who she was supposed to be. She simply wanted him because he made her happy.

These two books consumed me for about a week. They’re just so good, the story, the characters they really suck you in. The story was so compelling and fun and crazy. Plus King is insanely hot and both books had some really amazing twists. Things that I never expected and I loved it! I’m so excited to read the next two books in the series, which focus on a side character from the first two! If you love darker romances you definitely need to read this series!

Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
