Book Review – Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Hey lovely readers!

Today’s post is a book review of Cinder by Marissa Meyer.

cinderA forbidden romance. A deadly plague. Earth’s fate hinges on one girl . . .
CINDER, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She’s reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she finds herself at the center of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen – and a dangerous temptation. Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth’s future. This is not the fairy-tale you remember. But it’s one you won’t forget.”

I am so bummed about this book guys. Its been on my TBR for so long and it just really disappointed me. So let me just say that I love Marissa Meyer’s writing. The woman is amazing at making you feel consumed by a setting, if that makes sense. I also loved the premise of this book and plus I’m all about re-tellings. And the thing is with re-tellings obviously you know there’s going to be predictability. I was ready for it, but my goodness this story was just so boring.

I didn’t really connect with any of the characters and I felt like there was very little plot development with them. I also hated that you know Cinder is the princess so freaking soon and yet she doesn’t know until like the last freaking page. The synopsis says she has to uncover secrets about her past, but again this doesn’t happen until the book is basically done. Just nope. Like I said, I get that re-tellings are predictable. But this one I just couldn’t get past how easily things panned out. And the lack of answers in this book was just shocking. So many details left not expanded on. So many plot points undeveloped.

I just feel like there’s not much I can say about the book. I mean if you know Cinderella’s story, you know Cinder’s. I did enjoy the whole robot aspect and I would love to know more about the Lunars. I hoping that things are expanded further throughout the series. I’ll definitely be continuing because I’ve heard such great things about books 3 and 4. So if you feel like I do, lets stick it out together and hope that it gets better! Okay I’m done complaining 😉

Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna

  1. I had such similar feelings for the first book, but I promise that Scarlet and Cress get way better! In my opinion, it’s not a blow-your-mind amazing series, but I’m glad that I was able to finish it because I have a better understanding of its hype. I hope you continue!!
