Hey lovely readers!
Today’s post is a book review of Undeniable by Madeline Sheehan. And fair warning, I tried to make this review as coherent as possible. But frankly I struggled so much with this one. Okay, lets get to it.
“Warning: This is not a typical love story. This is an all-consuming, soul-crushing, tear-your-heart-into-pieces story. It’s intense, gritty and raw, dark and disturbing, and it doesn’t happen overnight. This is an epic love story that knows no boundaries and has no time limits. It grows and develops—with hurt, sacrifice, and heartache—over the span of a lifetime.
Eva Fox is the princess of the Silver Demons Motorcycle Club. Growing up with bikers in the club lifestyle is all that she knows. When she’s a young girl, Eva meets the reason for her existence. Deuce West is the sexy, biker bad-ass of the Hell’s Horsemen Motorcycle Club. Like Eva, he was born and raised in the club—but that’s where the similarities end. Their first meeting is innocent, but as Eva matures into a woman, their chance reunions evolve into a fit of lust and love. Fate continues to bring them together time and time again, but their twisted journey is filled with pain, betrayal, and bloodshed that could tear them apart. Eva sees in Deuce what he cannot see in himself—a man worthy of love—and Eva spends her lifetime proving to him that her undeniable love is the one thing he can’t live without. This is Eva and Deuce’s story. It wasn’t easy. Nothing worth doing ever is. And love is worth everything.”
My heart actually hurts from this one guys. And I’m really not sure if that’s good or bad in this case. The synopsis for this one says it all. I mean, it even warns you. You think you know what to expect and yet, you’re never quite prepared for what you get. This story spans years, around thirty I think. It is without a doubt the most dark and disturbing thing I’ve ever read. And yet I couldn’t stop, couldn’t look away, couldn’t give my heart a break from the sadness. Can you love a book that causes you to feel such heartache? I’m not really sure. But what I can say is that Madeline Sheehan knows how to make you feel all of the feels.
Deuce and Eva meet for the first time during a prison visitation, he is 23 and she is 5. I don’t mind age gaps, truthfully I enjoy them. And at least when things begin, Deuce feels nothing but platonic affection for Eva. This story spans 30 years and over those years Eva Deuce see each other only a handful of times. Yet their feelings, their love continues to grow. Love is never easy and life can be cruel. But what these two go through is truly harsh and brutal. This book triggers so many things. There is blood, violence, cheating, sexual abuse, and mental health issues. I applaud Madeline for penning such an intense and honest story, it couldn’t have been easy. I loved the brutality with which she portrayed these characters lives, because yes life really can be that cruel. I loved that Deuce was an angry asshole. I loved that Eva was broken and lost. I loved this because it’s real and honest. Books are supposed to be an escape. But every once in awhile you read one that forces you to face the truth. And that is this book.
That being said, this book is not an easy read. It’s not a light read. And sometimes I hated it. I hated it because Deuce and Eva never get a break. One terrible thing happens only to be followed up by another. Sometimes it seems like they love each other so much that it makes them hate each other. I feel almost inexplicably sad after reading this book. It broke my heart. A brutal read, a beautiful read. You’ve been warned ❤
Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
