Hey lovely readers!
So today I’m doing something a little different! I had a silly conversation the other day with Skye from Books in the Skye (who’s blog you should totally check out!) And it got me thinking about all of my favorite 90’s movies. I’m a total 90’s baby, born in 1992 and I just love remembering all the great stuff about that decade. So here are 5 of my all time favorite 90’s movies. (All but one of these came out in 1999 haha sorry).
“Three of the most popular girls at Reagan High accidentally kill the prom queen with a jawbreaker when a kidnapping goes horribly wrong.”
This one came out in 1999, but it is classic 90’s gold! Teen drama, high school mean girls, makeovers, yup this one has it all. I was watching this waaaay before I should have been, but I absolutely loved it. Rose McGowan, Julie Benz yes please 🙂 My older sister and I (4 years older) still quote this movie. And when our two younger sisters each turned 18 we had a sleepover and made them watch this. It was so much fun! It’s totally cheesy and ridiculous, but it never gets old! Check out the trailer and my favorite quote from the movie.
Best quote – “First, you need to know something about them. The beautiful ones. The flawless four. Everyone wanted to be them. You know them. They went to your school too. They totally ruled.”
Drive Me Crazy
“Nicole (Melissa Joan Hart) and Chase (Adrian Grenier) live next door to each other but are worlds apart. However, they plot a scheme to date each other in order to attract the interest and jealousy of their respective romantic prey. But in the mist of planning a gala centennial celebration, Nicole and Chase find that the one they always wanted was closer than they ever thought.”
Another one that came out in 1999, but again a total gem! I swear I still watch this movie at least once a month and I’ll never get tired of it. It’s your classic former best friends who grew apart and they realize they still care for each other. Of course they end up together, but before that can happen….drama! You can’t have a 90’s teen classic without drama. I also absolutely love the music for this movie, it just reminds of fun times ❤
Best quote: “She’s the kinda girl that will call you on your bullshit. She isn’t afraid to dance and she offers to pay. She doesn’t decide before a date whether or not she’s gonna kiss you; she’s not earnest, yet she’s not completely ironic either… She orders dessert and she can be ready in ten minutes.”
She’s All That
“A high school jock makes a bet that he can turn an unattractive girl into the school’s prom queen.”
Okay so like I said most of these came out in 1999, including this one. But hey I wasn’t that old in the 90’s so sue me hahaha! This one just makes me smile so much! It’s filled with so many random actors, plus freaking Usher 🙂 Rachel Leigh Cook is one of my absolute favorite actresses and I love seeing Paul Walker in one of his earlier roles (even if his character is a total jerk). Again the music for this just brings back so many memories and fun fact: in high school a bunch of my friends and I did the prom dance scene from the movie at our prom! Iconic ❤
Best quote: “I feel just like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. You know, except for the whole hooker thing.”
“Shallow, rich and socially successful Cher (Alicia Silverstone) is at the top of her Beverly Hills high school’s pecking scale. Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other. Emboldened by her success, she decides to give hopelessly klutzy new student Tai (Brittany Murphy) a makeover. When Tai becomes more popular than she is, Cher realizes that her disapproving ex-stepbrother (Paul Rudd) was right about how misguided she was — and falls for him.”
Finally one that wasn’t released in 1999! This one came out in 1995, woo! This one has to be the most iconic 90’s movie of all time. And this is the movie that inspired this post 😉 So this one is actually a re-telling of Jane Austen’s Emma which I love. Learning that fact when I was little definitely somewhat inspired my love of Jane Austen ❤ And fun fact: my older sister and I used to act out this movie when we were very little haha. I was always Cher. Plus I love seeing Brittany Murphy on screen ❤ Seriously guys how can you not love this movie? And if you’ve never seen it, what are you doing with your life?
Best quote: “He’s a disco-dancing, Oscar Wilde-reading, Streisand ticket-holding friend of Dorothy, know what I’m saying?”
10 Things I Hate About You
“Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles) is beautiful, smart and quite abrasive to most of her fellow teens, meaning that she doesn’t attract many boys. Unfortunately for her younger sister, Bianca (Larisa Oleynik), house rules say that she can’t date until Kat has a boyfriend, so strings are pulled to set the dour damsel up for a romance. Soon Kat crosses paths with handsome new arrival Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger). Will Kat let her guard down enough to fall for the effortlessly charming Patrick?”
This one’s actually one of my personal favorite movies of all time. It’s tied with Beauty and the Beast and The Wizard of Oz. Of course this one was released in 1999. I swear I did not plan this guys haha. I just love watching Heath Ledger in any movie so that helps. But this movie’s just funny, fun, and kind of heartwarming. And again I absolutely love the music, Letters to Cleo is still one of my very favorite bands. And the cast for this movie is just perfect. If you don’t like this one, we can’t be friends 😉
Best quote: “I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?
I think you can in Europe.”
