Book Review – Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss #2) by Stephanie Perkins

Hey lovely readers!

Today’s post is a book review of Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins.

22247695“Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion… she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit – the more sparkly, more wild – the better. And life is pretty close to perfect for Lola, especially with her hot rocker boyfriend.

That is, until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket return to the neighborhood and unearth a past of hurt that Lola thought was long buried. So when talented inventor Cricket steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally face up to a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door. Could the boy from Lola’s past be the love of her future?”

Oh I absolutely adored this book! It was like a warm hug, if that makes any sense haha. It’s just a cute and fun read with surprising emotional depth. I honestly thought it was perfect. I actually switched between audio and physical for this one and I really liked the audio. I didn’t expect this book, or any from the series, to be amazing literary works. But I really loved this book for exactly what it is. An adorable, heart warming romance. ❤

To say that I loved Lola would be an understatement. I just really appreciated how not perfect she was. She struggles so much with who she wants to be in this book and what that means. She loves Cricket, though she doesn’t realize it. And she clings so hard to the idea that her boyfriend Max is  the one. She’d rather stay with him even though she’s unhappy than walk away, because the idea is terrifying. And who can’t relate to that in some way. I loved her quirky personality and her amazing outfits/costumes! She’s not afraid to stand out.

And then there’s Cricket. Totally just *swoon*. He had to tow a really tough line between Lola and his sister. And though he didn’t always do the right thing, he really tried hard to make it right in the end. I loved that he loved Lola for exactly who she is and more than that he encouraged her uniqueness. Plus his crazy inventions were pretty awesome and I kind of wish some of them were real haha. I just really enjoy this series of books, because you can always see parts of yourself in the characters or the situations they experience. If you need something to pull you out of a reading slump, or you just need a light book to cheer you up definitely consider this one. Or either of the other two books in this series. They’ll definitely make you smile.

Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
