Hey lovely readers!
This weeks recommendations are paranormal romance. So lets get started! And just a FYI, paranormal to me includes vampires, wolves, witches, and aliens 😉
Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood #1) by J.R. Ward
“In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.
The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.”
So guys I’m officially obsessed with this series. It’s an older one, but I actually only heard about it a few months ago. But I’m all about the vampires so I gave it a shot and…..swoon! I’m almost done with the first book and though it was a bit slow to start I am now fully hooked. Also this is my first J.R. Ward book and excuse me while I go read everything else she’s ever written.
Bloodlines (Bloodlines #1) by Richelle Mead
“I wasn’t free of my past, not yet.
Sydney’s blood is special. That’s because she’s an alchemist – one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets – and human lives. But the last encounter Sydney had with vampires got her in deep trouble with the other alchemists. And now with her allegiences in question, her future is on the line.
When Sydney is torn from her bed in the middle of the night, at first she thinks she’s still being punished for her complicated alliance with dhampir Rose Hathaway. But what unfolds is far worse. Jill Dragomir – the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir – is in mortal danger, and the Moroi must send her into hiding. To avoid a civil war, Sydney is called upon to act as Jill’s guardian and protector, posing as her roommate in the unlikeliest of places: a human boarding school in Palm Springs, California. The last thing Sydney wants is to be accused of sympathizing with vampires. And now she has to live with one.
The Moroi court believe Jill and Sydney will be safe at Amberwood Prep, but threats, distractions, and forbidden romance lurk both outside – and within – the school grounds. Now that they’re in hiding, the drama is only just beginning.”
If you know me, you know how much I love Bloodlines. It is seriously the best YA series ever and Adrian is 100% the best book boyfriend ever. DO NOT come at me! But seriously if you haven’t read this series you need to. Bad-ass Sydney, swoon worthy Adrian, vampires, witches, tiny dragons, magic, oh and throw in some political intrigue and that’s Bloodlines. Though it is a spin-off of Vampire Academy it can be read on its own and in my opinion is so much better. It’s YA, but a much more mature YA that deals with some tough issues. Check out my series review here.
Fallen (Fallen #1) by Lauren Kate
“What if the person you were meant to be with could never be yours?
17-year-old Lucinda falls in love with a gorgeous, intelligent boy, Daniel, at her new school, the grim, foreboding Sword & Cross . . . only to find out that Daniel is a fallen angel, and that they have spent lifetimes finding and losing one another as good & evil forces plot to keep them apart.
Get ready to fall . . . “
This series gets such a bad rep and it makes me so sad, because these books are so good. I read the first one in two hours during a lay-over and finished the rest of the series within a week while on vacation. I’ve heard them compared to Twilight and I just don’t get that. I absolutely loved Lucinda and Daniel’s relationship and the brilliant twist on fallen angels. The first book is a bit slow, but beyond that the series moves at just the right pace. And you can’t help but root for these two after all they have been through. I haven’t reviewed these, because I read them before I started blogging. But I think a re-read is definitely in order 😉
Big Bad Wolf by Jus Accardo
“Kensey Deaton comes from an elite werewolf lineage, but just because her family is royalty, doesn’t mean she’ll fall in line like some perfect little princess. She has plans and they don’t include an arranged marriage.
Slade McAlister has his own family drama. His Alpha father happens to be the most reviled wolf on the eastern seaboard, and it’s a stigma he can’t escape. So when his neighbor Kensey–the girl of his dreams and his nightmares–proposes a solution to solve *both* of their problems, he sees an opportunity he can’t ignore.
Kensey and Slade aren’t only from opposite sides of the tracks, they’re from opposite sides of the war. But if they can sell their ‘relationship’, they might just make it out of this with their freedom.”
This one was just a really fun, quick read that just made me smile. It’s really well written and the story went deeper than I expected. I just love the whole “opposite side of the tracks” thing and it definitely gave me my wolf fix 🙂 I’ve read quite a few wolf romances and most of them are so cheesy it makes me cringe. But this one had just the right amount of cheesy moments mixed with truth and sincerity. Definitely give i a try if you’re looking for something to put a smile on your face or pull you out of a slump! Check out my full review here.
In Fallen Woods by R.N. Merle
“Long ago in England, and far away to the west…
In the dark heart of Fallen Woods, Darklin, a sixteen year old witch and her mother Gressyl, live hidden among the tangled trees. They are bound to a secret coven practicing dark and cruel magic. Darklin is taught to be merciless and to despise humanity, to believe that beauty is treacherous, and that love and kindness do not truly exist.
But when Darklin has a fateful encounter with a beautiful and kind hearted young man, powerful feelings are unleashed. As urges of attraction and destruction war inside Darklin’s heart, which urge will she give way to, and where will it lead her?”
So first of all, I freaking love this cover. Ok but for serious. I absolutely adored this book. I was contacted by the author (who by the way is a total sweetheart) to review this and I just fell in love with the world and characters she crafted. This is truly a unique romance story complete with witches, curses, magic, mystery, and that slow burning quiet English romance that I love. (Seriously, I got Elizabeth and Darcy vibes from this book. Those British authors sure know how to write a good romance). Definitely give this one a try and let me know what you think!
