Hey lovely readers!
I decided to join in on the fun! So here’s a list of the best books I read this year. My goodness it was hard to narrow these down. Here we go!
The Last Magician (The Last Magician #1) by Lisa Maxwell
Oh goodness this book took over my life. It’s funny, because I had heard about from someone a while back and added it to my Amazon wish list. My husband will randomly buy me books from the list and this time he picked The Last Magician. When he gave it to me I actually asked, “What the hell is this?” I didn’t remember anything about it. But holy cow it was so freaking good. I mean magic, an awesome heroine, and old timey New York, umm yes please! I never saw the plot twist coming and the characters were absolutely captivating. A great YA fantasy with a touch of realism. Find my review here.
Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas
I can’t say enough about this book. I recommend it all the time. I include it on all my favorite lists, it’s safe to say I’m obsessed. I had no clue what this book was even about, but I took a chance and it paid off big time. The thing about this book that really hooked me? The amazing chemistry between the two main. I’ve never read a sexier romance book and that’s saying something haha. Plus Penelope Douglas is totally a Reylo and I love her 😉 So many quotes from this book have stuck with me. This book is real and so so beautiful. Check out my review here.
Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young
Hands down the best YA book I’ve ever read. I’ve read this 4 times this year and I still love it so darn much. It’s truly a unique story. The characters are amazing, the world building is phenomenal. And I think Fiske is officially my favorite book boy of all time. Eelyn is such an amazing character. The strength she exhibits in everything she does is so bad-ass. I also found that all the characters had such great chemistry which isn’t something I feel happens a lot in YA books. A book featuring a female viking warrior, yup sold! My favorite scene has to be when Eelyn and Fiske run into a bear, the tension is palpable and that was when I knew how these two would end up 😉 P.S. the audio for this is really great! My full review is here.
Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
This one broke my heart. I was not prepared for how much it would hurt. But it was also really beautiful. It tells a story of such a difficult loss, but from the perspective of a man instead of a woman. I absolutely loved this, because I feel like the kind of loss that Miles suffers is rarely told from the male perspective. I think Colleen Hoover is so great at telling the tough stories. She gives you the ugly love and forces you to confront it. Something I think we all need. Nothing worth having is easy to get. My full review of this one can be found here.
Bane by L.J. Shen
I love reading the tough books. The ones that force you to face the hard stuff and deal with it. I especially love the ones that I can personally relate to. This is one of those books. The heroine has gone through a horrific ordeal and the story that follows is her journey towards healing. Of course being an L.J. Shen book it’s fully of smut and has a hot boy to love. But the thing I’ve always loved about her books and this one in particular is that the story is about so much more than just sex. It’s a beautiful story ❤ Find my review for this one here.
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
My absolute favorite historical non-fiction book in a very long time. I’ve studied World War II history for such a long time, both personally and professionally. So of course this one makes it on my favorites list for the year. It’s the story of 4 very different teens trying to survive the Russian occupation of Germany. But more than that, they are all trying to escape their pasts. This book highlights what is arguably the greatest maritime disaster in history and tells a heart-wrenching and beautiful story of survival. You can find my full review here.
Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
