Hey lovely readers!
Here’s a book review for you!
“They say your first kiss should be earned. Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky. They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred. Mine were broken before we left church. They say your heart only beats for one man. Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end. I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit. Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage. They say that all great love stories have a happy ending. I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.
One kiss. Two men. Three lives. Entwined together. And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.”
Sooooo I’m resisting the urge to write this review simply as: This book is amazing, go read it! And no, I’m not joking. I read this book in about 5 hours, and yes that is the truth. Now, a few days later, I finally have my thoughts together. So let’s talk about this freaking amazing book!
I’m going to try and do this without giving anything away, because to do so would really take away from the experience. Suffice it to say, it probably won’t go the way you think 😉 First of all, that cover is the most gorgeous thing on the planet any you cannot convince me otherwise. Second, arranged marriage? Count me in! And then add a love triangle? Yup, I’m sold. I mean Wolfe is absolutely phenomenal, an asshole if there ever was one. But OMG did I love him beyond words. And then there’s Francesca, bless her beautiful heart. I wanted to scream on her behalf so many times, but my goodness I was so proud of her so many times.
This story is truly unlike anything I’ve ever read. It’s so intimate and honest and raw an real. It’s not pretty, it’s not patronizing, and any happiness these characters may find is hard won. It’s so complicated and heart-breakingly beautiful. It’s intricate and twisted and so expertly written. It’s L.J.’s best work and I will fight anyone who disagrees. The pacing is perfect, and I was blown away by the subtle historical aspects thrown in. There are so many more good things I could say, but I’ll leave you with this: If you’ve yet to read an L.J. Shen book, this one is an excellent place to start. A truly fantastic and beautiful story that will undoubtedly leave you awestruck!
Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
