Hey lovely readers!
So I finally got my shit together and finished this list haha. Here are some of the worst books I read in 2018. Do not come at me if you disagree with any of these. These are just my opinions. 😉
1. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski
Oh my gosh I legit hated this book. Maybe I would have liked it a bit more if I had read it years ago, but it was just such bad, cheesy YA I just couldn’t deal. It’s all kinds of problematic and the writing made me cringe repeatedly. There is nothing good or redeeming about this book.
I will say that I am in love with this cover, but that’s all I’ve got for good things haha. I just really hated the heroine and basically the entire premise for the book. I think this could have been a great book if it had been thought out a bit more. You can check out my full review here.
2. Followed by Frost by Charlie N. Holmberg
I wanted to love this one I really really did. The concept is amazing and the story is interesting. But something happened early on in the book that is so wrong I just couldn’t move past it. It kind of ruined the rest of the book for me. Basically the entire story is set into motion because the main character doesn’t want to marry a guy. So the guy curses her. Like so a girl doesn’t want you, says no, and so you pretty much ruin her life? Just hell freaking no. And then in the end she’s thankful to this guy because if he hadn’t cursed her she would never have become a better person. Victim blaming, nope I’m done. Read my full review here.
3. Him & I by Melody Eve
This one is really simple. Dude’s basically a stalker. That is not okay with me. Dude’s in love with this girl and he basically keeps tabs on her all the time. The guy is incredibly controlling and pretty manipulative. And he seems to think the way he acts is completely okay, because he loves this girl and he just wants to keep her safe. But the way he does it just really isn’t good. This is supposed to be a romance, but I just really didn’t buy it. It reminded me a bit of Fifty Shades, but I actually didn’t mind Fifty Shades. This however just seemed insanely next level. Read my full review here.
4. The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window by Kirsty Moseley
I feel so bad about including this one on my list, but there were just too many issues with this book. This one deals with rape and surviving sexual assault, which I absolutely praise the author for trying to tackle. But I just felt that the treatment of the rape and the person who committed the rape was just swept under the rug in the end. And I just really did not like that. I also hated that this book had no trigger warning for rape or sexual assault, so I really had no idea what book I was reading. The whole thing kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Read my full review here.
5. The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg
Yup another book by this author. Although I’ve only listed the first book here, all three books in this series were equally bad. All three books were annoyingly similar. Same plot, just different magicians with different powers. The first thirds of each book was so slow and then boom something huge happens and it’s full steam ahead. No sense, no explanation, and honestly some bizarre plot points. The concept was really interesting, but it was wasted on a boring story that is the plot for each book. And honestly I freaking hated the way the series ended. I read it and literally said, “That’s it? After all that bullshit, that’s all I get?” Now I just want to say that I have nothing against this author as a person or anything. I think her books just aren’t my thing. Find my full review here. (This one’s an oldie of mine, so apologies for the crappy writing haha).
Man this list took me forever to put together haha. I hope you guys enjoyed it! 🙂
Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
