Book Review – The Perfect First by Maya Hughes

Hey lovely readers!

Here’s a book review for you! Massive thank you to Maya Hughes for being so amazing to work with and thank you so much for the ARC of this amazing book!

perfect first“Persephone Alexander. Math genius. Lover of blazers. The only girl I know who can make Heidi braids look sexy as hell. And she’s on a mission. Lose her virginity by the end of the semester.
I walked in on her interview session for potential candidates (who even does that?) and saw straight through her brave front. She’s got a list of Firsts to accomplish like she’s only got months to live. I’ve decided to be her guide for all her firsts except one. Someone’s got to keep her out of trouble. I have one rule, no sex. We even shook on it.
I’ll help her find the right guy for the job. Someone like her doesn’t need someone like me and my massive…baggage for her first time.

Drinking at a bar. Check. Partying all night. Double check. Skinny dipping. Triple check. She’s unlike anyone I’ve ever met. The walls I’d put up around my heart are slowly crumbling with each touch that sets fire to my soul. I’m the first to bend the rules. One electrifying kiss changes everything and suddenly I don’t want to be her first, I want to be her only. But her plan was written before I came onto the scene and now I’m determined to get her to re-write her future with me.”

This book legit made me smile all the way through! It was sweet, funny, and so much fun. Total honesty here: I love Maya Hughes’ books and I’ll all about college football romances, but I’m not a huge fan of the virginal heroine and total man whore athlete. But, this time it actually worked for me! Seph is an absolutely hilarious and refreshingly naive heroine. To me Seph’s naivete is 100% believable and understandable, though I won’t say why. My favorite thing about Seph though, is that she’s not naive by choice. She knows about the world, she just hasn’t had a chance to experience in the ways that the rest of us take for granted.

Enter Reece, my new favorite book boy! Here he is Mr. popular football jock, man whore, cocky, doesn’t care about anything but the game. Oh, but wait he actually has so much depth as a character and it made me so happy! He has a really interesting backstory and family dynamic. He’s completely upfront about what he wants with Seph. Of course there’s eventual miscommunication, but Reece still breaks the mold as far as the usual book boyfriend. I really loved how their relationship started, it was just hilarious and so perfect. It made so much sense, with the way their relationship developed that they actually started out as friends. The relationship between Reece and Seph is just so adorable and just really really cute. I absolutely loved these two so much.

I’m so excited to see what new stories come out of the Fulton U universe. This book is a great one to pull you out of a slump, which is exactly what it did for me! I highly recommend this one!

Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
