Blogtober (Day 16) – My Own True Scary Story

Hey lovely readers!

This post is all about something scary that actually happened to me. This 100% happened to me and two friends in high school. No joke. Here’s my story.

I was 16 years old, a Junior in high school. My two best friends and I absolutely loved Halloween and all things spooky (obviously still do haha). So we decided one night around Halloween to have a sleepover, watch scary movies, and make a Ouija board. Now I just want to say for the record that I had NEVER (until this happened) had any experiences with paranormal things. I absolutely believe in them, spirits are a big deal for Mexicans, but I’d never witnessed one. Needless to say I was not okay with making a Ouija  board. But my friends convinced me.

Here’s some context for you. The friends house I was at is out in the middle of nowhere. It’s a very tiny town in the middle of farm country in Wisconsin. Neighbors are pretty far away, very little traffic on the road, and no one was in the house but the three of us and my friends two cats. Her parents weren’t expected home until pretty early in the morning (they were at a wedding). So we looked up instructions online for how to make a Ouija Board and once it was finished we set it up in her room on the floor. We gathered the cats in the room with us, shut, and locked her door (we were already a little spooked). Now my friend who’s house we were in fully believed it to be haunted. It was a pretty old farm house, with an actual well in the basement (which we firmly believed the little girl from the ring would crawl out of one day) and the seller had told them people had died in the house way back in the day.

So she decided we should try and contact one of the people who had died in the house. And I’m just there muttering about how bad of an idea this is, bad juju, and how much I don’t want to be there. To this day I wish I had left. Basically we called out to the spirits in the house and we got an answer. You know how in the movies when people use Ouija boards and the pointer start to move and everyone swears they’re not moving it? Well I’m here to tell you that’s exactly what happened. The spirit answered and we started asking it questions. How old was it? Boy or girl? How’d you die? Did you used to live here? Are you angry? At this point I think we all believed one of us was moving the pointer. We decided to test it and removed our hands. It kept freaking moving. At this point I’m crying, but we’re all in shock. We could not move. Now I’m not going to give you guys any details on the person we made contact with, because I believe that’s all kinds of bad juju.

But I will tell you what happened after we removed our hands from the pointer. We’re sitting there watching as the spirit starts spelling: let me out, I need to get out, let me out. At this point both cats are hissing and their hackles are rising like crazy. The lights started flickering and then I happened to glass at the mirror above my friends dresser. There was a freaking shadow and then it fell from the wall and shattered. All the while the pointers moving….let me out, I need to get out, let me out. We’re screaming and crying, the lights are flickering, her closet door opens on its own. It was terrifying. We all eventually ran for the door and huddled together in the living room until my friends parents came home. We turned on every light in the house and stayed that way for like three hours. Her parents cam home at like 4 A.M. We’re all still awake, we make her dad go into her room and get pillows and blankets, and we all slept on the floor in her parents room.

The next day we all went to get the board to get rid of it and to clean up the mess. Now I don’t know if you guys know this, but you cannot just throw a Ouija board away, especially not one you’ve used. You need to either cut it up on a very specific way and bury it (preferably at a crossroads) or you need to burn it with sage. Some people say to never burn it, but who knows what actually works. Well my friends and I for some reason decided we would keep it. I think we were afraid if we tried to destroy it the spirit would be mad, so the friend who’s house we made the board in decided she would keep it. I think she felt guilty, because it was her idea. Fast forward a few weeks and my friend, the one who kept the board swears the board was haunting her room. Scary stuff kept happening. So we put the board in a bag, found a crossroads near her house, buried it, and sprinkled the sight with holy water. All the creepy things stopped that night.

But to this day none of us will even go near that road and we’ve never messed with a board again. I’m pretty much over the experience, it’s been ten years. But each year on or around that day my friends and I check in with each other. We’re not as close as we once were and we all live far from each other, but we’ll always be bonded over this. I’ve never forgotten it and I don’t think I ever will.

And that’s my scary story! Do you guys have one?

Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
