Book Review – Hate the Game by Winter Renshaw

Hey lovely readers!

Here’s a book review for you! I’m working my way through Winter Renshaw’s books. This is my fourth, and I can’t wait to keep going!

“Talon Gold is a lot of things: good at football, bad at love. Obsessed with scoring, refuses to play by the rules. Cruel. Relentless. Brilliant. Intoxicatingly attractive.

Despite his demanding reputation and propensity for being the most arrogant a-hole ever to strut Pacific Valley University’s picturesque campus, everyone wants a piece of him: coaches, scouts, and pretty little fangirls with pouty lips and perfect top knots.

But Talon … he only wants a piece of me. And four straight years of infuriating rejection means I’m almost positive he’d take a night with me over a national championship trophy.

But I’m no fool—he only wants me because he can’t have me. And with graduation approaching, time is running out. He’s more desperate than ever, pulling out all the stops and doing everything in his power to get in my good graces.

They say, “Don’t hate the player, hate the game.” But to that I say, “Why not both?”  I have my reasons …  Sorry, BMOC. This victory? Not going to happen.”

OK, but that cover? Freaking gorgeous!

This was just one of the cutest, chill, and most fun football romances I’ve read in so long. I mean there was a bit of angst. But it wasn’t drawn out too long. The characters were both fun, but they had hidden depths that only added to their likability. The story was well written and well paced and I honestly flew through this one. It was just the perfect cute contemporary sports romance.

It’s sort of an enemies to lovers thing, since the girl wants nothing to do with the big football good. She’s put him off for so long and the book basically follows how he finally gets her to agree to a date. And we watch them fall in love and it’s freaking adorable. Through in a few parties, some jealous girls, a hilarious Great Aunt, and a nasty ex-boyfriend and you’ve got a perfect book. I found the backstories for the main characters to be surprisingly poignant and well thought out. It definitely gives you the reader an interesting perspective.

I’ve now read four books by this author and I’m amazed by how unique each one was. Each left their own great impression on me and I’m excited to read more of her books. The only thing that bummed me out was the ending. It felt a bit rushed for my liking. But otherwise, if you want something light, easy, and fun this is perfect!

Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
